I've included quotes about writers and the teachers to illustrate the views of those inside the professions.
Welcome, Explorer!
Anne McCaffrey is a popular science fiction writer. I have compared her ability to engage and inspire her readers to the same abilities in a teacher. I wanted to use some popular culture references, videos, and soundclips in order to prove my "with-it-ness".
In the Beginning...
Journal about changes in my point of view from an adolescent reader of science fiction to a future writing teacher of adolescents.
Visiting the Worlds of Anne McCaffrey
A look at three of Anne's most well-known science fiction universes.
Crystal Dreams, Iron Nightmares
This is a scene from a short story that was inpired by the sentient and hypnotic crystals of the Crystal Singers universe. The first book is entitled "Crystal Singer", then "Killashandra" (also the name of a location in Ireland), and finally "Crystal Line". There are other books in the same universe. My own short story (or is it a book?) remains unfinished.
The Writer and the Teacher
This poem just came to me in its finished form when I thought of the double voice genre. It shows the parallels and the differences in the daily experiences of teachers and writers.
I was there.
This poem just came to me in its finished form when I chose my inspirational picture.
The Dragonlady
In this interview Anne McCaffrey states one reason why she wanted to become a writer initially. She was her own first target reading audience because she was disapointed in what was currently available in the "pulp fiction" genre and wanted to do better. This shows that great writing has many sources and that students should be inspired not intimidated.
T.V. or Not T.V. that is the Question...
Anne McCaffrey's commitment to keep Pern and the dragonriders' public images pure and true to her original vision.
Reading Preferences Survey
A form genre piece to introduce some of Anne McCaffrey's works of fiction.
The Power of Music
A multimedia genre piece to experience Anne McCaffrey's own multi-genre visions for her work.
Reflected Knowledge
This my extended metaphor poem. I had the idea for light as knowledge in a poem. I found a picture that incorperated the moon, the sun and the reflection of light. It took a few days after posting the picture and writing the first two and last two lines to finish the thought. But, I think it turned out very nicely.
Inspiration
I sort of went overboard on this page. There were so many ideas that I wanted to incorporate at once: fan art, fan forums, methods for writers, and protection of original artistic work through all the fan immitations of it.
