Visiting the World of Pern
Pern is by far the most well-known of Anne McCaffrey's worlds.
Visiting the Worlds of
the "Brainships"
Although Anne McCaffrey is famous for her Dragonriders of Pern series, she also has other series and standalone novels that are popular.
McCaffrey created the concept of "brainships" that are piloted by a human being who is entirely "brain" and dependant upon her "brawn" to do things in the outside world. The "brain" is encased in a pod from an early age due to genetic or other factors and connected to the ship in such a way that she IS the ship. Her "brawn" is specially trained to handle whatever the mission calls for until the "brainship" completely pays back her debt for her training and the ship itself.

Visiting the World of
"The Talents"
McCaffrey has a series exploring the fictional early years of discovering and acknowledging "Talents" or powerful psychic abilities in humans. It reminds me somewhat of the X-Men and Professor Xavier's special school. But the "Talented" individuals are portrayed as completely human physically rather than the more pronounced differences of the X-Men and students at Xavier's school. But, it is interesting to note that both series feel that there needs those with "speical abilities" need to be a separated from the "non-special"
population.
